Chinese New Year is Red

Red is a highly vibrant color used to express joy and happiness in Chinese culture. It is said a long time ago that the color red scares off ferocious beasts and vermin, and wares off evil spirits and monsters. Now it continues to symbolizes vitality for the new year and the new season as folks welcome spring. Besides Chinese new year, it is the color for weddings, baby birth celebrations, and birthdays. Chinese wedding dresses are red. For those occasions red means fertility. When you see red at grand openings, business signages, and grand mansions, it means prosperity. At temples and palaces red means reverence. Red is not used for funerals.
