The roof covers all 3 parts, the house, the home, and the people who live there. The Chinese character for family has a roof that encompasses all 3 concepts of family. The Chinese has a tough time thinking about all the parts being separate. If you leave the house, you are leaving the family. If you don’t buy a home, you are not keeping your family in a good place. In Chinese language form, home is not somewhere you go, like to the theatre, to work, to school. You “return” home because that is where you started.
