I am grateful this year to have been invited by podcast host Gail Zugerman to appear on her program Growing Older with Gusto. She asked me to present a cross cultural view on growing older. I admit the first time I heard the term “over the hill” on a birthday card, I didn’t quite get it because it was so contrary to what getting older means in the Chinese context. Like Ellen DeGeneres’ famous remark, I thought that “over the hill” must mean that life gets easier after 30.
In the East Asian context, growing older is a promotion, not a demotion.
Growing Older with Gusto is a program about positive perspectives and healthy habits about growing older. If you are 30 or older, you might enjoy my short talk on growing older in the Asian perspective: Growing Older is a Promotion.
If you prefer to see me, here’s the same episode on Youtube.
Thank you all for being part of my programming. Please look for more cross cultural episodes with Growing Older with Gusto in 2021.
