The Swedish Solution to Covid19

“Many Swedes also think the approach is logical in the context of the country’s history, culture, and values, which consider the “rights” of many, not just the elderly and sick, said Trägårdh.” Sweden being open doesn’t mean crowded beaches and hundred person house parties. Although there’s no face mask requirements, there is a ban in place for gatherings over 50; Spring Break travels reduced by 90%. Most importantly, there’s stronger social pressure to reduce hugs and hand shakes than in the US where people haphazardly stop a handshake in mid-air or offer an elbow to someone’s open embrace. Before the US can adopt a Swedish solution such as no mask wearing, we must have a culture that is more like the Swedes, in such a way as no talking on public transits, no small talk with strangers in public offices or mini-marts, low talking between teen and younger students. Like the Swedes, Chinese culture is a low touch culture. Chinese physical social contact has curtailed quickly to social distancing. How have you adjusted your physical social contact to Covid19?
