Recent predictions note that Greece will attract more tourists than other Mediterranean countries. In fact, some experts expect a 50% increase in Chinese tourists from the high income bracket. There are good reasons for this growth, such as positive linguistic coincidences and a different kind of European offering. An example of a synergy in linguistic terms is in the names of the two seas surrounding Greece, the Ionian Sea and the Agean Sea, which in Chinese, connote seas of love and romance. Romance is a rather new concept to the Chinese and it is an attractive marketing tool. Beach vacation and sun worship are also foreign to the Chinese culturally and will surely offer something new to the Chinese jaded by their big city experiences in such places as London, Paris, Berlin, Rome.
