Zoom was founded by Chinese-born engineer Eric S. Yuan in 2011. Zoom has proven to be incredibly robust as we transitioned quickly to communicate on this platform. According to The New Yorker article, Naomi Fry’s “Almost There: Embracing the chaotic side of Zoom”, the number of daily users have leapt “from 10 million last December to 200 million in late March.” Since the Covid19 outbreak, CEO Yuan has generously opened the service free to educational institutions in the US, Japan, and Italy. The lag time is minimal. Its future looks bright, about $40 billion worth. Tait Lawton, founder of Nanjing Marketing Group, agrees that based on his experience running Chinese digital marketing campaigns for Western businesses, that Zoom is still one of top most reliable ways to run a successful videoconference.
